Art Therapy : New model therapy for breast cancer
Women who have radiation treatment for breast cancer have experienced lasting improvements in the mental and physical health, as well as in the quality of life, after participating in five sessions of art therapy, according to a report of researchers Swedes.
The results “strongly supports that therapy of art is a powerful tool in the rehabilitation of patients with breast cancer and presumably also in the care of patients with other types of cancer,” said Dr. Jack Lindh of Umea University, Umea, Sweden, and colleagues conclude in the European Journal of Cancer Care.
Women who are faced with major depression after a diagnosis of breast cancer, the art therapy may offer a way to enable women to express or equalize their emotions, thus improving their quality of life.
The study participants completed surveys to address their quality of life and the self-image before the start of the radiation treatment, two months later, and six months after the start of treatment. Read the rest of this entry »
